National Seminar on “Moocs- A Recent Way Towards Digitalized World”
Vol. 40 No. 33 (2020)

ABOUT THE SEMINAR

A National Seminar on “Moocs- A Recent Way Towards Digitalized World” was organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial College of Education, Dhudike Sponsored by College Development Council (CDC) Panjab University, Chandigarh on 22nd February, 2020. The main objective of the seminar was to explore the use of MOOC in teaching learning process.

Massive Open Online Course (MOOCs) is an online course aimed at unlimited participation and open access via the web. In addition to traditional course materials such as videos, readings, and problem sets, MOOCs provide interactive user forums that helps to build a community for students, professors, and teaching assistants. MOOCs have recently received a great deal of attention from the media, entrepreneurial vendors, education professionals and technologically literate sections of the public. Across the world, premier universities have put their courses online by setting up open learning platforms, such as edX. Commercial start-ups such as Coursera and Udacity have also been launched in collaboration with prestigious universities, offering online courses for free or charging a small fee for certification. The rapid expansion of MOOCs has sparked commercial interest from venture capitalists and major corporations who want to enter the Higher Education (HE) market using a MOOCs approach.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have emerged as one of the most potential tools in proffering quality education and massive training to a huge domain of audience worldwide. On one hand it reaches a global domain of learners, and on the other hand promulgates knowledge in an efficient digital platform, besides intertwining a huge network of students, scientists, professors, scholars, teachers and different stakeholders related to education. Despite intensified advantages and efficiency, people accessing MOOCs from the developing countries (especially India) do not count to a significant number. India being a promising abode of education too offers a prospective area to MOOCs for large scale implementation. But several factors and constraints like low digital literacy and lack of massive digital infrastructure hinder this process of extensive implementation of MOOCs.

Dr. (Mrs.) Umesh (Principal) extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries, delegates and participants, expressed her immense pleasure that Internal Quality Assurance Cell was hosting a College Development Council sponsored National Level Seminar. She also introduced the Resource Persons by highlighting their academic qualifications and other achievements in the field of education and spirituality. In the inaugural session lightening of lamp was performed by Dr. Mukesh Kumar Arora (Chief Guest), Dr. Amit Kauts (Dean, Faculty of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar), Dr. Sarbjeet Kaur (Principal, Guru Ram Dass College of Education, Jalalabad) Dr. Parkash Chander Jena (HOD Manglam, University, Delhi), Dr. (Mrs.) Umesh Kumari (Principal/Director), Dr. Ajay Kumar (Convener of the Seminar).

Dr. Mukesh Arora, Fellow, Panjab University Chandigarh was the Chief Guest of the Seminar.

Dr. Amit Kauts, Dean, Faculty of Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Dr. Parkash Chander Jena, Dr. Prakash Chander Jena Ji (HOD Manglam, University) and Dr. Sarbjeet Kaur (Principal), Guru Ram Das College of Education, Jalalabad acted as a Resource Person in the seminar. Resource persons expressed his/her views on the use of MOOCs in recent Education.

50 delegates presented the papers in the seminar. Dr. Ajay Kumar (Convener of the Seminar) gave a vote of thanks to the resource persons, guests and all the faculty members for their co-operation for making this event a great success.

Special Issue on LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND SOCIETY
Vol. 40 No. 30 (2020)

Special Issue on LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND SOCIETY

The present special edition examines the various perspectives of Language, Literature and Society and defines their apt relevance. The notion of language is being considered somewhat similar to life. Language is a natural human growth; to some extent mental as well as physical. It remains changing incessantly; hence the nature of language is dynamic. A child learns the language of the society which he lives in. The entire frame of culture and civilization fully depends upon language. Language is the means of communication among human beings through which human community grows and develops in this globe. The society cannot be thought of without language. Language generates thoughts and leads the entire frame of culture and civilization. All human beings are blessed with this precious gift. The history of human development validates the importance of language. It has brought the gradual development of human life from Stone Age to Modern Era.

Literature is created through language. Literature is the source of human knowledge and the documentation of human experience. Literature helps to understand the world around us and preserves the morals of people. History of literature dates back to the dawn of human civilization .The societies were formed by the human beings with objectives of fulfilling the human needs and aspirations. Literature and society are closely related to each other since literature is the mirror of society. An exposure to good literary works is essential at every phase of life as it enriches us in more ways than one. Literature spans culture, beliefs, and attributes the necessary component for corroborating how literature reflects, and portrays communities. The events are usually reflected in the writings of the authors. Literature acts as a form of expression for each individual author. Some books mirror society and allow us to better understand the world we live in.

Hope this collection of papers will recommend further directions both for reading and research.
